While we certainly enjoy our equipment, most guitarist actually aren’t that technical. To be sure, most would admit a fondness for bare-bones guitar pedals. This is probably why some of the most popular stompboxes have only had a single knob or two. However there are some guitarists that find think three knobs are still more than they want to deal with. The only way to get past these fears is to spend some time learning what the controls on your guitar pedals do. Let’s jump right in and use the MXR Carbon Copy as an example of how to tweak those knobs on your guitar pedals.

Insert the Carbon Copy into your signal chain.

Plug your guitar cable into the input of the Carbon Copy. Plug the output of the Carbon Copy into the input of your amp.

Unless it is your only pedal, you’ll want to determine where in your signal chain to put the Carbon Copy. Practically all guitarists agree that delay pedals follow any compressor or distortion pedals.

Understanding what each control does.

Delay:

The Delay knob allows you to modify the amount of delay time from 20ms (fully counter-clockwise) to 600ms (fully clockwise).

Regen:

The Regen knob allows you to set the number of delay repeats from one (fully counter-clockwise) to infinite (fully clockwise). The Regen knob functions together with the Delay knob so modifying the settings of one will affect the other.

Mix:

The Mix knob allows you to alter the portion of delayed, or “wet”, signal from entirely dry (fully counter-clockwise) to uniform amounts of wet and dry (fully clockwise).

Mod:

The Modulation button allows you to impart a certain portion of modulation to the delay signal. Modulation is an effect that varies the pitch of a signal by a small, regularly occurring amount, creating a warbling effect.

There are two internal trim pots inside the Carbon Copy that provide allow you to alter the width and rate controls of the modulation effect.

Effect on/off switch:

Like most guitar pedals, the Carbon Copy has a foot-switch that toggles on and off.

Some suggestions:

Start with the Delay and Mix knobs set entirely clockwise and the Regen knob set fully counter-clockwise. Turn the pedal on by stepping on the footswitch. A blue LED illuminates when the effect is engaged. Now just take some time to dial in your desired sound by adjusting the three knobs in relation to each other.

Don’t let a lack of experience stop you from twisting those knobs. Experimentation can deliver amazing outcomes.

If you are a guitarist and budding superstar, then you will eventually need Electric Guitar Effects Pedals to enhance your performance, and to develop your sound and style. Of all the pedals available this article shows five which are most commonly used, with a brief description of each.

1. Compressor Pedal

Although this pedal is probably the most useful, the Compressor pedal is probably the least understood and the hardest to use. The function of the pedal is to enable the player to perform rhythmic chords to dynamic solos without affecting the output volume of your Amplifier. Effectively, this means that the audience will hear your softer playing, yet when you hit those blistering solos you won’t drown out the rest of the band.

This pedal is also extensively used for long sustained notes, allowing the guitarist to show off a bit. However, incorrect use of this pedal can either produce a rather bland performance, or at the other extreme produce unwanted noise.

2. Tremolo Pedal

Initially becoming very popular in the 1960′s, this pedal is still in wide use today. The Tremolo produces a vibrato effect by rapidly changing the volume of the sound at a rate determined by the user.

The signal for the guitar is altered by feeding a separate sine wave through a Voltage Controlled Amplifier, within the pedal. By adjusting the gain of the VCA, plus the frequency of the sine wave, the resultant output rate and depth of the signal is modified, producing the Tremolo effect.

3. Overdrive and Distortion

If you are into a more aggressive, heavy metal style of playing, then the Overdrive-Distortion is a popular and simple to use effects pedal. The purpose of the pedal is to create anything from warm clipped tones to gritty or dirty sounds. Overdrive and Distortion pedals are relatively cheap to buy and readily available. Most have only a few controls such as Drive, Tone and Gain, which are more than enough to create a wide range of sounds. For more complex wave shaping abilities, more comprehensive O/D’s are also available.

4. The Wah Wah Pedal

This is yet another popular pedal. This effects pedal produces a sound which is similar to a human voice saying – er, well – Wah. Control of the Wah effect is via a foot pedal which incorporates a treadle rocker on the pedal itself. This type of pedal is great for rhythmic or lead playing.

The Wah effect is produced by passing the guitar signal through a low pass filter, the amount of which is controlled by the floor pedal. This effect is now also used extensively in modern dance or trance music where the high frequencies are gradually filtered out to a muffled beat, and then restored again.

5. Phaser Pedal

The final pedal to be mentioned is the Phaser pedal. The effects of this pedal are extremely well known and are very popular. To produce the phasing effect, the signal for the guitar is duplicated to produce two identical signals. They are then mixed together again, but slightly out of phase. The phase effect is born.

Which way to set up the Pedals?

If you are wondering about the best way to configure your effects arsenal, there are two ways available. Firstly, you could buy a Multi-effects Unit, which has a varying number of guitar effects built into the one unit. This is quite a nice way of doing things and is easy to set up at a gig. Prices vary, but the quality difference between them is very small, mostly due to the fact that they all utilise microprocessor controlled technology.

The second method is by buying the different types of effects pedals seperately, and daisy chaining them together using short cables. This method could be due to budget – buying the next pedal as and when you can afford to, or perhaps you have your ‘favourite’ pedals that you love and know very well. Which order to put the pedals in however, is another matter, and is heavily debated amongst musicians.

Going with the right type of guitar playing system is what you have to do, if you want to learn to play. There are a lot out there, but few offer what Jamorama is going to provide. That’s because this is the most complete learning method around, because of how they combine all of the different features.

What you’re going to find when you get started with guitar, is that it helps to have visual aides. That’s why Jamorama starts out showing you how to play, through really intuitive playing videos.

But what’s more, you don’t develop the muscle memory that some fingers need to play guitar well, and to play fast at the same time. If you can’t do that, then you’re never going to be a great guitarist.

Plus you still get everything that an instructor would still provide you. That means audio, visual, and text lessons to teach you literally everything about playing guitar that you could ever possibly want to know.

When you’re looking to be a top guitar player, you’re going to find that a few things can hold you back from achieving your goals. And namely it’s not having a good instructor that goes at your pace. A lot of instructors move too slowly over some parts, while others can end up moving too fast.

All you have to do is have the commitment. You have to realize going in that guitar is all about the amount of time that you can put into playing. If you can’t commit a lot, you’re never going to be a great player.

Just remember to practice, because you can’t get anything out of Jamorama if you don’t put that time in yourself. If you don’t practice, then you’re just never going to be able to use this as an ideal method of learning guitar.

If you can’t, then you’re just never going to be able to make anything come from the time that you spend with this software, and it’s going to end up as a disappointment with your guitar playing progression.

Experience way more of this author’s content pieces about Jamorama review.

Learning music is amongst the most fun and rewarding ways a child can learn how hard work pays off. How many adults in conversation admit to regretting never taking up an instrument as a child? Who can look at a piano, a guitar, or some other instrument and honestly say “I’m glad I don’t play that”? While the parent’s dreams shouldn’t be hoisted onto their children, most kids love to play music, and even if there is some resistance at first to practicing it’s common for this to diminish as they become accustomed to the instrument and begin to partake in the joys of music.

When you’re starting your child out in music it’s important to consider what they want out of it. If they show a strong inclination to music and a will to learn, it’s reasonable to enroll them into serious classes. But many students are satisfied just learning fun, basic pop tunes. It was a more common practice some decades ago to have kids playing classical pieces from the Western canon of music. This is great music, it hopefully everyone can play it one day, but if your child is happy playing songs from the radio that should be enough. Chopin isn’t going anywhere! The thing to do is make sure the teacher understands that the lessons are primarily about fun, but to pass along proper techniques and skills wherever possible. For this kind of student, at this stage of development, fun should win out where it collides with dense and dull music theory.

This is not a manifesto for watering down the talent pool of young musicians, but recognition that not everyone is Glenn Gould and some people take time to really delve into the instrument, and pushing too hard too soon turns them off. This is needless and tragic. Besides, the heights of great music are unaffected by young students having harmless fun at the entry level.

If your child has a serious desire to learn music you must decide what level is appropriate. You may still very much want him to have fun and relax, but perhaps he needs a challenge. If the latter is the case, matching him with the right teacher is very important. It may be the rare case where there’s no fun without hard work, and schmoozing and playing easy tunes is a boring waste of time. If this is the case, it may not be evident right away.

Pay attention to how quickly your child advances, what they can play, and how they respond to the teacher outside of their presence. If they insist on doing more, find a teacher who can challenge them. At the other end, your child might have ability but might care more about enjoying himself. It’s important to make this distinction and find music lessons Nanaimo that put them on the best track for their needs. A musical life is its own reward, and the most important thing is to make sure they continue.

Trying to learn how to play an instrument? Then be sure to visit Long & McQuade – one of Canada’s largest music stores offering a wide selection of piano lessons Ottawa and piano lessons Mississauga see if there are lessons in your area today!

Piano lessons are the most common way to enter the world of music, and people have been learning this instrument for centuries for good reason. It’s fun, and with all the notes chronologically arranged, it’s easiest to learn music on. It is easier to move onto another instrument after playing piano.

Traditionally beginners start with easier version of classical compositions and work towards playing harder and harder classical music, but this is no longer the case. Teachers are willing to provide easy versions of pop music that their students are more motivated to play. But aside from the joy of playing and the beauty of the music, there are still more reasons for children, and even adults, to take up piano lessons.

It’s great for children to have a balance of time to play, do school work, and have another outlet that’s a kind of combination of both: piano requires concentration and diligence, but it doesn’t have the same harsh consequences or severity associated with school. It’s great for children to have an enjoyable payoff for their hard work so they can learn the benefits of doing a moderate amount of work every day. Adults have probably had this sensation in their life, but you can never have it too many times! Especially at a later stage of life, adults might even appreciate the gift of music more.

However beautiful, watching a musical performance is always accompanied in some small measure by a pang of jealousy, as one feels the urge to be the one in the spotlight winning the applause and admiration of the audience. It’s great to send children on their way to becoming this performer, or be the adult longing to play this role. Of course, this ambition isn’t necessary. Playing music alone is a tremendous joy!

Presumably the student is inclined towards it and there’s usually a more casual relationship between student and teacher. There is a difference between getting serious lessons at the conservatory of music and hiring a professional music teacher: the former is more rigid and rigorous, which sometimes actually has the adverse effect of making the lessons unappealing. Hiring a professional teacher can be a bit looser, a bit more informal, but it’s essential to make sure they are well steeped in piano technique, theory, and passion. So long as they’re not a high school student looking for pocket money, or a sketchy transient rock musician, the odds are the teacher you’ll land will be perfectly appropriate.

It’s hard to describe the ways playing music increases the pleasures of listening, but it’s true that no musician is the same listener after taking up the instrument. It’s easier to imagine the technical challenges of a piece, but it’s fundamentally not about the crude physical movement of the fingers. The musician perceives the movement of the notes themselves, not the fingers, and their dazzling swaying harmonies are enjoyed on a sensory level, where it should be. Piano lessons Mississauga show that the work leads to immense pleasure!

Long & McQuade’s Musical Education Center offers piano lessons Vancouver and piano lessons Ottawa. When trying to learn a musical instrument be sure to visit the professionals at Long & McQuade – one of Canada’s largest music stores.

If you have decided to learn to play the guitar using software that you can find online, it is important to find a very complete tutorial as this choice will depend on gaining interest in this instrument or completely loosing all of your curiosity.

It is recommendable that said program contains images that will help you to position your fingers on the strings to help you play the basic notes, sounds to help your hearing to get accustomed to each different note, simple exercises to get used to changing from one note to another, easy songs that will help you to enjoy your practice when you see your progress as web as all other the other possible applications, these can be advise columns about different makes and models of guitars, tuning and a large variety of exercises.

The first thing you have to do before you start playing the guitar is to tune the instrument. To do this, you can look in the tutorial in the section where the sound of the different cords is given and using a microphone on your PC you can make your cords sound the same as those on the program, knowing they are correctly tuned.

The most academic part of any teaching, and this includes that of the guitar, requires a lot of discipline and effort. Because of this you must pay attention to each individual exercise that is offered to you through the program.

Taking advantage of all of the new improvements offered by new technologies, when you get to the point of playing the first cord combinations you should not forget to take advantage of the software option of listening to the piece before hand, this is a great advancement with respect to the older ways of learning.

Either way, you have to manage to dominate the guitar, do be able to improvise with it and have fun playing varieties of music, so it is important to dedicate time to your guitar, without the help of online programs to be able to manage your progress with the instrument and also to enjoy playing it.

Using these types of soft ware to learn to play the guitar is a big advantage as they let you listen to the exercises as well as seeing them at the same time so you can learn quicker and by doing this you can gain a good idea of all of the different tempos needed to be able to give you the chance of playing with other musicians as well as understanding the different types of rhythms needed to make the music sound great.

It is wise to keep in mind that, even though you can learn a lot by using different soft wares to give you an idea on how to play this instrument, the best advise you will get will always come from other people. Like those who share a passion for music and especially this instrument and those people who dedicate their lives to the sales of musical instruments.

Learn more about guitar playing software. Stop by GPP’s site where you can find out all about tuition software and what it can do for you.

In a world where digital is replacing everything in its path, it should come as no surprise that drums, the oldest instrument on earth, now has an electronic counterpart. Fortunately, advances have made these drums of today much improved over the first ones to come out. While they’ll never replace traditional drum kits, they don’t have to, and they offer some serious advantages that can’t be obtained any other way.

The first electronic drums that came out where fascinating as a concept, but there were too many serious drawbacks. The heads lacked sensitivity, so hitting different places along the surface of the head produced the same sound. One of the great charms of the drum is the variety of sounds you can produce with each component. There isn’t simply one sound called snare, hitting in the middle produced a very different tone than on the side, and in between are countless shades of tone that electronic models ignored. They had one tone for the head, and another for the rim. This fault has been rectified in newer models which offer much more sophisticated synthesizers. The result is a viable instrument for professional musicians. There are a fair amount of albums recorded with electronic drums today, something unthinkable a decade ago.

Another obvious benefit of the electronic drums is the variety of kits that can be programmed. Not only can you get different kinds of traditional kits, but kits of all kinds of themes. This was true since their inception, but now that the heads are more receptive and developed this benefit can be used to much greater effect. To switch to a Caribbean or jazz kit or South American sound without having to get off your drum stool offers massive possibilities to the professional musician on stage or promises of fun for the amateur musician jamming with his friends.

These kinds of drums are not cheap. Indeed, drums are a relatively expensive instrument, but electronic drums also require the purchase of an amplifier. This is true of all electronic instruments. Anyway, they have grown and developed to the point where they are worth it! The list of professional recording artists who use them is growing, and this is the most reliable indicator that these instruments are serious and not just a novel alternative concept. Actually, they haven’t been for years. They are worth the money.

For parents, the largest complaint about drums, historically speaking, is the volume. With electronic drums this problem disappears, as you can simply lower the volume on the speaker, or even play with headphones. It’s reasonable to tire of hearing an amateur drummer learn to keep up a basic rhythm. It takes a certain amount of tenacity and love from a parent to put up with it! Parents no longer have to sacrifice their ear drums for their children. It’s a win-win.

There are different models, different price brackets, and other things to consider, but buying Roland electronic drums, unthinkable years ago, is a wonderful modern alternative to the traditional kit.
